Memorize The Bible With Me

Scripture One Week At A Time!

This is the first episode where we memorize some scripture together!

I wanted to start off with a set of verses that I came across in early December – Hebrews 13:5-6.  I really wasn’t having a very great weekend as I recall – work pressures.  Numbers for year end were coming due and I was off the mark.  (Not a situation I like to be in.)

But as a result I was really feeling the pressures of life and frankly was letting them get to me more than I should have.

I guess you can say I was afraid.

  • Afraid of how the year was ending.
  • Afraid of what that would mean at work, etc.

Imagine how refreshing it was to read these two verses!

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,

“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.”

So we say with confidence,

“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?”

Hebrews 13:5 – 6

Notice how God’s promise starts with “Never?”

That’s for emphasis.  It’s not just that God says he won’t leave or forsake us, the author of Hebrews is emphasizing how resolute God’s promise to be with us really is.  It’s almost like typing in all caps today – like shouting from the roof tops.

Think of God’s promise this way:

“NEVER will I leave you;
NEVER will I forsake you.”

Powerful isn’t it?  I am still letting this sink in.

As for my fears:  I still have them but I’m trying my best to have faith in God and keep my fear of tomorrow under control.  My head knows the truth that:

“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?”

but at times my heart forgets this basic truth.  Honestly I think this is kind of normal.  We all need reminded now and then to keep things in perspective.  After all, the writer of Hebrews is actually quoting Psalms 118:6 to the readers of his letter.  So you see?  Even back then people who love God needed to be reminded of the basics.  Hey – now I don’t feel so bad!

Good luck this week and I hope this podcast really helps you out.
