004 Memorize The Bible With Me – I Am The Resurrection and The Life – John 11:25-27

by Dan Horner on January 22, 2012

An eyewitness account of what Jesus said to Martha after her brother died.

That’s the context for the memory verse this week – John 11:25-27.

Jesus was very close to Lazarus and his two sisters:  Mary and Martha.

Lazarus had died and when Jesus came, Martha met him and said, “… if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” (John 11:21)

John the Apostle witnessed their interchange and recorded it in his Gospel.

Jesus explained that Lazarus would rise again.  Martha agreed when she said, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” (vs. 24)

Martha had no idea that Jesus was about to raise Lazarus from the dead!

Jesus wanted Martha to know he was more than just a “healer.”  Jesus wanted her to know that he would conquer death.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;  and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

“Yes, Lord,” she told him, “I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.”

John 11:25-27

Not long after this Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.

Many believed, but it was only a short time later when Jesus left Bethany for Jerusalem where he would be tried and crucified.
