015 Memorize The Bible With Me – The Great Commission – Matthew 28:18-20

by Dan Horner on April 8, 2012

MemorizeTheBibleWithMe.comJesus was crucified, buried and then rose from the dead on the third day.

But then what happened?

  • He restored Peter and answered Thomas’ questions
  • He made various appearances to more than 500 of his followers
  • He said to wait for the Father to send the gift of the Holy Spirit
  • He gave last minute instruction.  We call it:

The Great Commission

Then Jesus came to them and said,   “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20

When someone knows they are leaving, they put great emphasis on their final words

That’s exactly what Jesus is doing here.

Notice that right after He says he has “All Authority” He then gives us a Command!

  1. Go…
  2. Make Disciples…
  3. Baptizing…
  4. Teaching…

And a Disciple is someone who:

  • Turns from sin (repents)
  • Trusts in Jesus for Salvation
  • Obeys Jesus’ teachings

And he says He will always be with us

How cool is that!
