God just seems to delight in using common people with a simple message to spread His story of how we can get to Him through belief in His Son, Jesus.

Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age?

Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him,

God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

1 Corinthians 1:20-21

The Wisdom of the World?

  • Says we have to earn our way to God
  • Says we need to clean ourselves up before we can get to God
  • Says “good” things happen to “good” people and “bad” things happen to “bad people
  • Says we can even exclude God

God Calls This Foolishness!

Because through this type of wisdom people have failed to find the truth or come to know their creator.

But God’s Wisdom is:

  • Our debt to God is too large to pay through our own efforts
  • So God sent Jesus to pay the debt
  • He died and rose on the third day – this fulfilled the debt
  • Jesus is now our Advocate to God the Father
  • When we believe in Jesus and repent of our sins our Advocate obtains our pardon
  • Then we move in a new direction, have a new beginning and we look forward to living forever with Him.

So simple it was called “Foolishness”

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

1 Corinthians 1:18
