019 Memorize The Bible With Me – Pray About Everything – Philippians 4:6-7

by Dan Horner on May 13, 2012

MemorizeTheBibleWithMe.comWhy didn’t I notice this verse before?

Sometimes I get asked why I use different translations.

One reason is that a verse that I’ve become too familiar with will JUMP OUT AT ME when I read it in a translation I’m not completely familiar with.

That’s exactly what happened to me a couple of weeks ago

Here’s a verse I have been exposed to many times in the past:

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”  Philippians 4:6 (NKJV)

This is a great verse.  There is a lot of truth packed into 21 English words.

The Problem?  I was too familiar with the wording and it lost its impact.

Then, a couple weeks ago, I read:

“Don’t worry about anything;  instead, pray about everything.”  Philippians 4:6a (NLT)

I thought – That’s It!  I need to focus on what I am supposed to DO – Pray about everything.

NOT on what I am supposed to leave behind – Worry.

This truth almost jumped off the page at me and I really needed to hear it.

The meaning of the verse is still the same, it’s just that I had become too familiar with the wording.

See why I like a different translation every now and then?

I got so excited about what I had read that I put this Bible verse in my notes so that I could memorize it later.

Pray About Everything

“Don’t worry about anything;  instead, pray about everything.  Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.  His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)

It is so hard, through sheer determination, to stop worrying

So stop focusing on that.  Instead, Pray about everything and you, by being connected to and focused on God, will have a peace that is not explainable.

And if you’re having trouble figuring out what to pray about, take Paul’s suggestion and simply let Him know what you need and thank Him for all He has done.  There’s more to learn about prayer, but this is a great place to start.

Thank you for joining me this week.

Are you like me and worry?  Have any suggestions on how to remember to pray about everything?  Leave a comment below and I’ll be sure to respond.
